COVID-19 Statement

The COVID-19 pandemic presents new challenges for the Washington Predator-Prey Project. The University of Washington has deemed our research critical, and so we are moving forward with data collection this summer. The WPPP has developed a comprehensive set of protocols to 1) protect the health of project personnel and the communities in which we work by limiting the risk of transmission of SARS-CoV2 while 2) minimizing the loss of valuable, expensive, and time-sensitive data for this long-term project.

Our safety protocols follow recommendations from the CDC, Governor Inslee, and the University of Washington. These include but are not limited to:
  • Social distancing from members of the communities in which we work
  • Wearing face masks when interacting with the community
  • Follow additional hygiene recommendations, e.g., washing hands frequently for 20 seconds
  • Attesting that project personnel are not experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 on each work day
  • Obeying state and local ordinances and public land closures

We are avoiding all unnecessary public contact while the “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order is in effect and will take active measures throughout our field season to minimize risk of transmission and spread of the coronavirus.
